THE BREWERY
THE BREWERY
History
The story of Haacht Brewery began on 14 June 1898, when Eugène De Ro brewed his first high-fermentation beer. In 1950 his son-in-law Alfred van der Kelen took over the management of the brewery. Alfred died in 1968 and was succeeded by his son Frédéric, who still manages the brewery today.
The Primus pilsner as we know it today was first brewed in 1974. Thanks to Primus and decades-long dedication, Haacht Brewery has become an established player as a beer brewer on the Belgian market. The family’s fourth generation is now ready to face new challenges with the same unconventionality and dedication.
Unconventionality flows through our pipes
Haacht Brewery has been an independent family business for more than 110 years. It’s a great example of real Belgian craftsmanship. The unconventional character of Primus results from this long history of unconventionality at Haacht Brewery. Follow the taste hype of the day? No thanks. We prefer to brew Primus according to the rules of the art. And preserving our industrial heritage, our values and traditions tastes so good, we wouldn’t give it up for the world.
